It’s impossible to grow your online business without lead generation. But getting it right can be tricky if you’re just getting started. The goal is to attract high-quality leads that will convert to paying customers. That means you need to be able to attract visitors to your website, convince them to give you their email address, and cross your fingers that they’ll want/need your product or service and will become future customers.

Here are 5 lead generation tips that will help you hit the ground running with your lead generation efforts this year:

  1. Create a Content Strategy
One of the best ways to kickstart your lead generation is by creating a great content strategy. The goal is to use valuable pieces of content to attract visitors to your site. In order to do this effectively, you need to have a firm grasp on who your target audience is. This can be achieved through the creation of buyer personas- representations of your customer based on demographics and firmographics.

Once you know who your content is talking to, you can create engaging and helpful webinars, blog posts, ebooks, videos, and landing page that solve your visitors’ problems and prove your expertise.
  1. Get Active on Social Media
Social media is an excellent way to connect with prospective leads. But you need to stay away from self-promotion and instead use it to share industry news, attract readers to your blog, and answer customer questions.

Social media can help you boost brand awareness and engage with others in the industry. You can also build a loyal following by demonstrating your authority in your niche and getting to know your target audience online.
  1. Don’t Forget Email Marketing
While content and social media are crucial for lead generation, email marketing continues to stand the test of time. These days, getting potential leads to hand over their email addresses can be tricky, but once you have them, you can reach leads in their inbox- where they spend a lot of time hanging out.

Once you’ve started building up your email list, it’s a good idea to launch a newsletter. The trick is to keep your content relevant and targeted. Answer your leads’ most pressing questions and encourage them to click through to your website.
  1. Use the Right CTAs
Optimise your content by adding a relevant call-to-action. Let visitors know what you’d like them to do- whether that’s following you on Facebook, sharing your blog post, or signing up for a trial.

Keep CTAs above the fold or choose one that can scroll with your readers. Choose just one clear, CTA and avoid multiple CTAs which will make it difficult for visitors to know what you want them to do. Use contrasting colors to draw the eye, and make sure your CTA is clickable. Finally, use verbs like ‘download’ ‘share’ or ‘follow’ instead of simply ‘submit.’
  1. Track Your Leads
It’s no use launching a lead generation strategy if you’re not tracking your leads. You need to be able to allocate your marketing budget effectively and track ROI based on how you’re using email, social media, and content to attract those leads.

For example, Facebook and Twitter both have analytics which can give you insight into what your followers are doing and what types of content they respond well to. And Google Analytics can show you which posts and pages generate the most traffic to your site. There are also a number of customer relationship management (CRM) tools which can help you keep track of leads at every stage of the customer journey.
